Home Tutor Safety and Reporting a Tutor

Safety tips for parents booking a home tutor in Ghana, what LessonPro checks and what it does not, and how to report a tutor. Reviewed within 24 hours.

A home tutor comes into your house, or your child goes to theirs. That takes trust. LessonPro checks every tutor's identity before their profile goes live, but home tutor safety still depends on what you do around the lessons. This page covers both, and how to report a tutor if something goes wrong.

What LessonPro checks, and what it does not

Before a tutor appears in search, our team checks:

  • their Ghana Card, front and back, and that the name matches the profile
  • a selfie, compared with the card photo
  • their phone number, with an SMS code

Some tutors also have a gold Credential verified badge, for a certificate we checked. What each badge means.

LessonPro does not run police or criminal record checks. We do not employ tutors, supervise lessons or handle payments. The checks tell you who the tutor is. They do not tell you how they will behave.

Before the first lesson

  • Talk to the tutor first. Call or WhatsApp from the profile. Ask about their experience, the level they teach and how they plan lessons.
  • Check the face. The tutor who arrives must be the person in the profile photo. If not, do not start the lesson. Report it.
  • Agree the details in writing. Price, length of each lesson, how many lessons and how you will pay. Keep it in WhatsApp.
  • Never pay a large amount up front to someone you have not met. Pay after lessons, or month by month, and ask for a receipt.
  • Lessons at the tutor's place? Visit with your child the first time. You get the exact address by SMS when the tutor accepts your request.
  • Tell your child what is normal. A lesson is about schoolwork. They should tell you if a tutor asks them to keep a secret, asks for their own phone number, or makes them uncomfortable.

During lessons at home or online

At home:

  • Have an adult at home during lessons, at least for the first few weeks.
  • Use a shared room, such as the living room or a table in view, with the door open.
  • Ask your child how the lesson went, every time. Look at their exercise book.

Online:

  • Use the meeting link from the SMS, on a phone or laptop in a shared room.
  • Know which platform the lesson is on, and check in during the call now and then.
  • The tutor has no reason to ask your child to move to a private chat or another app.

At any time: if your child is in danger, call the police on 191, or 112 for any emergency service. Then tell us.

Report a tutor

You can report a tutor for a scam or fraud, harassment, not turning up, poor teaching, unprofessional behaviour, or anything else. You do not need an account.

  1. Open the tutor's profile on getlessonpro.com.
  2. Tap Report this tutor, near the bottom of the profile.
  3. Type your Full Name and Phone Number.
  4. Pick the Reason: Scam / Fraud, Harassment, No Show, Poor Teaching Quality, Unprofessional Behavior or Other.
  5. Under Details, say what happened, when, and where.
  6. Add screenshots or photos under Evidence, if you have them.
  7. Tap Submit Report.

We review every report within 24 hours. Only our team sees your report.

We use your report to look into what happened. Depending on what we find, we can suspend the tutor, which hides their profile from parents.

To find a different tutor, go back to Find a Tutor. To share your experience for other parents, leave a review.
