What the Badges on a Tutor Profile Mean

Ghana Card verified, Selfie match and Credential verified: what each LessonPro badge checks, who checked it and when, and what it does not promise.

Looking for verified tutors in Ghana? Every badge on a LessonPro profile stands for a check our team did by hand, with the date it was done. This page explains what each badge checks, and what it does not.

On the website, tap or hover over a badge to see the details. In the app, the badges sit under the tutor's name.

Ghana Card verified and Selfie match

Every tutor you can find on LessonPro has these two. A profile cannot go public without them.

Ghana Card verified means our team looked at photos of the front and back of the tutor's Ghana Card, and the name on the card matches the name on the profile. The card number is never shown.

Selfie match means our team compared a selfie of the tutor with the photo on their Ghana Card, and it is the same person.

The navy tick beside a tutor's name means both checks are done.

Together they tell you who the tutor is, by the name on a Ghana Card, and what they look like. If someone different arrives for the lesson, do not start. Report it.

Credential verified

The gold Credential verified badge means our team checked at least one teaching certificate against the tutor's original document. That could be an NTC teaching licence, a B.Ed or PGDE, a WAEC certificate or a GES letter.

Tap the badge to see each checked certificate by name, who issued it and the date. The Credentials section of the profile lists them too. The documents themselves stay private.

Certificates are optional for tutors. A good tutor may have no teaching licence, for example a university student who teaches JHS maths. No gold badge does not mean no skill. It means nothing has been checked yet, so ask.

You may also see References checked. It means our team contacted the tutor's referees and at least one confirmed they know the tutor. Every approved tutor has had at least one referee confirm.

Reviews, and what to check yourself

Reviews marked Verified student come from a phone number we confirmed with an SMS code, and each number can review a tutor only once. Older reviews may not have the label.

What the badges do not promise. They check identity and documents. They are not a police or criminal record check, and they do not grade teaching quality. LessonPro does not employ tutors.

So, before the first lesson:

  • Talk first. Call or WhatsApp the tutor. Ask about their experience with your child's level.
  • Ask to see the original certificate if one matters to you.
  • Ask for a parent you can call, if the tutor has taught other families.
  • Be at home for the first in-person lessons, or have another adult there. Keep the door of the room open.
  • Agree the price and payment before the first lesson, in writing.
