Add Referees to Your Tutor Profile
Add the people who can vouch for your teaching. How LessonPro uses referees, what stays private and what happens when you change them.
A referee is someone who can confirm that you teach. Every tutor gives at least one when they apply, and you can add up to three. LessonPro contacts your referees during the check, and at least one must confirm before we approve you. Once one confirms, your profile shows a References checked label. Referee names and numbers stay private.
Tell your referees to expect a call or message from LessonPro, and to pick up. If none of them confirms, we cannot approve your profile, so give people who know your teaching and who will answer.
Who makes a good referee
Choose someone who has seen you teach and will answer an unknown number. When you add a referee, you pick how they know you:
- Parent of a student
- Former student (18+)
- School head/colleague
- Employer
- Other
A parent of a student you taught recently can speak about results, which makes them a strong choice.
The rules:
- At least 1 referee, and up to 3.
- Not your own phone or WhatsApp number.
- No two referees with the same number.
Tell your referees before you add them. Our team may text, call or WhatsApp them. The text says you listed them as a reference on LessonPro and asks them to reply YES if they know you in the role you chose, or NO if they do not.
Add or change referees
In the LessonPro app:
- On your dashboard, under Tools, tap My profile.
- Under Edit, tap Referees.
- Tap Edit referees, or Add referees if you have none.
- For each referee, type the Full name and Phone, and pick How they know you.
- Tap Save referees.
Changes save at once. Our team does not need to approve them first.
At the top of the Referees screen you see either References checked or Not confirmed yet.
On the website, sign in and use the References card on your dashboard.
What happens to their details
Referee names and phone numbers are private. They never appear on your profile, in search, on invoices or anywhere parents can see. Only our team sees them.
Parents only see whether the References checked label is on your profile. Tapping it says our team contacted your referees, with the date.
If you delete your LessonPro account, your referees' details are deleted with it.
Referees are one way to build trust. A checked certificate is another: add your certificates. Then make sure your bio and subjects are up to date: edit your profile.
