How to Find a Verified Home Tutor in Ghana
Find a private home tutor in Accra, Kumasi or anywhere in Ghana. Filter by subject, area, rate and online or in person, then check badges and reviews.
You can find a home tutor in Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi or anywhere in Ghana on LessonPro without signing up and without paying a fee. Pick the subject and your area, compare a few tutors, then call, WhatsApp or send a lesson request.
Every tutor in the results has shown us a Ghana Card and passed a selfie check before their profile went live.
Search by subject and area
On the website, open Find a Tutor. In the app, tap Find at the bottom.
- Pick the Subject, for example Mathematics, English Language, Science or French.
- Pick your Area: East Legon, Spintex, Madina, Tema, Kumasi, Tamale and many more.
- On the website you can also pick a Level, from Primary and JHS to BECE Prep, SHS and WASSCE Prep.
- Set a rate if you have a budget. The app has bands such as GHS 50 to 100. The website has Min GHS/hr and Max GHS/hr boxes.
The search box finds a tutor by name or by a word in their profile, such as "phonics" or "core maths".
Tutors who are full for now still appear, after the others, with the label Not taking new students right now. You can still call or WhatsApp them to ask about next term.
Online or in person
Decide this before you compare tutors, because it changes who fits.
In person means a home teacher who comes to your house, or lessons at the tutor's place. Each profile shows which, under Where lessons happen in the app or How lessons work on the website:
- Teaches at own place: your child goes to the tutor.
- Travels to the student: the tutor comes to you. The profile may also say how far they go, under Travels up to.
- Own place or travels to the student: either works.
Profiles show a public landmark, such as "near Shiashie bus stop", so you can judge the distance. The tutor's exact address is never on the profile. If you book an in-person lesson at the tutor's place, the address comes by SMS when they accept.
Online means a video call on Zoom, Google Meet, WhatsApp video or Microsoft Teams. The profile lists the platforms each tutor uses. Online can suit exam revision, older students and families outside the big cities. It needs a steady connection and enough data for an hour of video.
In the app, the Online or in person filter opens the sheet below.
Compare tutors before you contact one
Open two or three profiles side by side. Check these:
- Badges. Ghana Card verified and Selfie match are on every live profile. A gold Credential verified badge means we checked at least one teaching certificate. What each badge means, and what it does not promise.
- Reviews. Reviews marked Verified student come from a phone number we confirmed by SMS. Read what the reviewer says improved, not only the stars. A new tutor with no reviews yet is not a bad sign on its own.
- Subjects and levels. A tutor who lists JHS and BECE Prep has chosen to teach that stage. Someone who lists only University may not be the right fit for a Primary 5 child.
- Experience and education. Shown in the details beside the rate.
- Languages. Some tutors also teach in Twi, Ga, Ewe, Fante, Hausa or Dagbani, which can help a young child settle in.
- Rate. Shown per hour, for example "GHS 80/hr". What private tutoring costs in Ghana.
