How Much to Charge for Home Tuition in Ghana
Set your tutoring rate in Ghana: what parents compare, how subject, level and travel change the price, and how to change your hourly rate on LessonPro.
How much to charge for home tuition in Ghana depends on your subject, the level, the exam and how far you travel. There is no official rate. Parents compare you with the other tutors they can see, so start from what the market asks, then adjust for what you bring.
On LessonPro you set one hourly rate in GHS. You keep all of it. LessonPro takes no commission and parents pay you directly.
What parents see when they compare
Your rate shows on your profile per hour, next to the line No agency fees. In the app, parents can filter by four bands: up to GHS 50, GHS 50 to 100, GHS 100 to 200, and GHS 200 and above. On the website they type a minimum and maximum.

So a parent with GHS 100 in mind may never open a profile at GHS 120. Price yourself for the parents you want, then give them reasons to pay it: a full bio, a clear photo, reviews and, if you have one, a checked certificate.
We do not have enough verified tutors yet to publish a LessonPro average. For a dated snapshot of what tutors in Accra, Kumasi and Sunyani ask in public ads on Jiji Ghana (jiji.com.gh), checked 3 November 2026, read how much a private tutor costs in Ghana. It is the same page parents read.
What changes the price (subject, level, BECE/WASSCE, travel)
Subject. If you teach a subject fewer people can teach, such as Elective Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry at SHS level, you have a case for a higher rate than a Primary English tutor in the same area.
Level. University and adult lessons can take more preparation than Primary. Price the levels you list, not only your favourite one.
BECE and WASSCE. Exam preparation has a deadline and a clear result. If you work through past questions and mark them, say so in your bio. That is what justifies an exam rate.
Travel. Going from Madina to a student's home in Spintex costs you transport and time on the road. Either charge more for home visits, or set a travel limit on your profile so you only get students close by. Set where you teach and how far you travel.
Proof. An NTC licence, B.Ed, PGDE or a WAEC result you can show helps a parent accept a higher rate. Checked certificates earn the gold Credential verified badge.
Group or siblings. Teaching two children from one house in one lesson takes less of your time than two separate lessons. Decide your price for that before a parent asks.
Hourly rate or a monthly package
Your profile always shows an hourly rate. Some families prefer a monthly fee, because it fits how they budget. You can offer both.
A package is your hourly rate times the lessons in the month, with a discount if you like. For example, at GHS 80 an hour, 2 lessons a week for 4 weeks is 8 lessons: GHS 640. Offer GHS 600 for the month and the parent saves GHS 40.
Agree these points in writing, on WhatsApp, before the first lesson:
- How long one lesson is.
- How many lessons the month includes.
- What happens if the student misses a lesson, and if you miss one.
- When payment is due, and to which MoMo number.
LessonPro invoices are built for this. Each line is a subject, a number of lessons and a price per lesson, and there is a discount box. Your hourly rate fills in the price per lesson for you. How to send a tuition invoice.
Change your rate on LessonPro
You set your first rate on the Become a Tutor form, in the Hourly Rate (GHS) box. To change it later, in the LessonPro app:
- On your dashboard, under Tools, tap My profile.
- Tap Profile details.
- Change Rate per hour (GHS, whole cedis).
- Tap Send changes for review.
On the website, sign in, open the Edit Profile tab, change Hourly Rate under Rates & Preferences, then tap Save Changes.
Your rate, subjects and bio all go through the same check. Which profile edits go live at once and which wait.
